Wichita, Kansas – Residents in south-central and eastern Kansas should be prepared for isolated thunderstorms capable of producing pea-size hail, wind gusts up to 40 mph, and brief heavy rainfall through 8 p.m. tonight. The storms are expected to impact cities including Wichita, Winfield, Harper, and Eureka, with pockets of activity stretching toward Chanute and Coffeyville.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, the green-shaded area on today’s storm map marks the zone of concern where the strongest cells could briefly turn severe. These conditions may cause localized damage to small outdoor objects and create hazardous travel with reduced visibility in heavier downpours.
Motorists on highways including I-35 and U.S. 400 should use caution this evening as wind gusts and quick bursts of rain could make driving challenging. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, residents are urged to monitor updated alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings in case conditions intensify.
Storm chances will diminish by late evening, with calmer weather expected overnight. Additional updates will be issued if stronger storms develop.
