Wichita, Kansas – Scattered thunderstorms and steamy conditions will dominate south-central Kansas through Saturday, with highs climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a surge of moisture will increase the risk for scattered showers and isolated storms Friday (30% chance) and Saturday (40%), particularly during the afternoon and evening hours. Thursday will remain hot and mostly dry, with temperatures between 88 and 91 degrees and overnight lows in the upper 60s.
Residents in Wichita, Hutchinson, and El Dorado should be prepared for sudden downpours, lightning, and brief gusty winds—especially on Friday during Fourth of July celebrations. While widespread severe weather isn’t expected, outdoor plans could be disrupted by passing storms.
If thunder roars, go indoors. Stay weather-aware and avoid standing water or flooded intersections. With dew points climbing, heat indices may also feel hotter than the actual air temperature—hydrate frequently and limit strenuous outdoor activity.
Storm chances linger through Saturday night as the humid air mass slowly exits. A drier pattern is expected to return by Sunday.
