Morrison, IL – The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to drive sober and stay alert this Halloween as part of a countywide traffic safety campaign targeting impaired driving.
Sheriff John F. Booker announced that deputies will be stepping up patrols to crack down on drunk and drugged driving throughout the fall season and Halloween weekend. The effort is part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s “It’s Not a Game” initiative, focused on reducing crashes and fatalities caused by impaired driving.
“Alcohol and cannabis impair your ability to drive safely,” said Sheriff Booker. “That’s why it’s crucial to plan how you’ll get home before you head out — whether you’ve been drinking or using any substance.”
Officials urge drivers to plan ahead by designating a sober driver, using public transportation, or calling a ride-share service. The Sheriff’s Office also reminds all vehicle occupants to wear seat belts at all times, noting that DUIs apply to alcohol, cannabis, and other drugs.
The campaign runs alongside Illinois’ “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High, Get a DUI” programs, supported by state and local law enforcement agencies.
