Des Moines, IA – When do clocks fall back across Iowa this year? Residents in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Sioux City, and Ames will turn their clocks back one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025, as Daylight Saving Time officially ends across the Hawkeye State.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, Iowa will return to Central Standard Time through early March 2026. The “fall back” provides an extra hour of sleep, but it also means shorter days and earlier sunsets as the state transitions into late fall.

In Des Moines, sunset on Sunday will occur around 5:05 p.m., while in Cedar Rapids and Davenport, dusk will fall closer to 4:52 p.m. Western areas like Sioux City will see the sun set near 5:14 p.m. Residents are encouraged to plan for darker commutes beginning next week.

Fire departments across Iowa remind residents to check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replace batteries while changing clocks—a twice-yearly safety habit encouraged nationwide.

Daylight Saving Time will resume on Sunday, March 8, 2026, when clocks “spring forward” by one hour again.
