Springfield, IL – When do clocks fall back across Illinois this year? Residents in Chicago, Springfield, Rockford, Peoria, and Naperville will turn their clocks back one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025, as Daylight Saving Time officially ends across the state.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, Illinois will return to Central Standard Time through early March 2026. The “fall back” gives residents an extra hour of sleep, but also means earlier sunsets and darker commutes as November begins.

In Chicago, sunset on Sunday will occur around 4:43 p.m., while in Springfield and Peoria, dusk will fall near 4:55 p.m. Northern areas like Rockford will see sunset around 4:46 p.m. Residents should prepare for reduced daylight hours heading into the winter season.

Fire departments across Illinois also remind residents to check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors while changing clocks—a twice-yearly safety reminder encouraged nationwide.

Daylight Saving Time resumes on Sunday, March 8, 2026, when clocks “spring forward” one hour once again.
