Albany, NY – When do clocks fall back across New York State? Residents in Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, Syracuse, and Long Island will turn their clocks back one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025, as Daylight Saving Time officially ends.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the entire state will return to Eastern Standard Time through early March 2026. The “fall back” shift brings an extra hour of sleep, but it also means noticeably darker evenings.

In Buffalo, sunset on Sunday will occur around 5:03 p.m., while in New York City and Long Island, the sun will set closer to 4:49 p.m.. The change impacts commuters, students, and anyone traveling during the early evening hours.

Fire officials across the state also remind residents to check smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries while adjusting clocks—a habit encouraged twice a year with each time change.

Daylight Saving Time resumes on Sunday, March 8, 2026, when clocks “spring forward” again by one hour.
