Wheaton, IL – The Wheaton Police Department has introduced a new initiative named Connect Wheaton, aimed at creating a security camera registry to assist in solving crimes more effectively. This program encourages residents and business owners to register the locations of their security cameras, which will help law enforcement quickly identify potential video evidence during criminal incidents.

Residents and businesses can sign up their camera locations through a dedicated online platform. The process is quick, taking approximately 60 seconds, and ensures that police can reach out to camera owners for footage when needed. Importantly, the registry does not grant the Wheaton Police Department direct access to the cameras or their feeds unless a crime occurs and they are legally permitted to view the footage.

Additionally, businesses have the option to join a separate system allowing for live-stream feeds directly to the police in emergencies, provided they activate a panic button or use a compatible smartphone app. More details are available on the Wheaton city website.
