Wheaton, IL – Crews will spray for mosquitoes at Lincoln Marsh early Tuesday morning, Sept. 16, as part of efforts to reduce West Nile virus risk in the area.
According to the Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District, a helicopter will apply treatments at Lincoln Marsh during the early hours of Tuesday, weather permitting. The spraying is being conducted after mosquito breeding sites were discovered and following reports of West Nile virus activity in the area. If weather delays the work, the application will take place Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Officials confirmed the spraying is limited to Lincoln Marsh. A broader districtwide application was carried out Sept. 11. The district covers 23 square miles, including most of Wheaton, as well as parts of Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, and unincorporated Milton Township.
The Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District operates independently of the City of Wheaton. Its mosquito management program is contracted to Clarke, a private service provider. Residents with questions can visit www.clarke.com or call the district’s hotline at 1-800-942-2555.
