Wheatland, Wyoming – Drivers in Central Platte County should expect dangerous wind gusts and damaging hail through 2:15 p.m. MDT as a severe thunderstorm barrels across southeastern Wyoming.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, the storm was located over Dwyer Junction around 1:25 p.m. MDT and is moving southeast at 15 mph. Radar indicated winds of up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail capable of damaging vehicles, roofs, and trees. Areas impacted include Wheatland, Phifer Airfield, Chugcreek, and the Platte County Fairgrounds.
Local roads near Y-O Ranch and Lakeview North could become hazardous due to wind-blown debris or ponding from torrential rainfall. Flash flooding is also possible, especially in low-lying areas or where drainage is poor.
Residents are urged to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid driving through flooded roads and stay off highways if visibility drops or hail begins to fall.
The warning remains in effect until at least 2:15 p.m., and more alerts could follow if the storm continues to intensify.
