Wheatfield, IN – Man Detained After Gun Discharge in Vehicle

Wheatfield, IN – The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest of Jacob L. Figueroa, 25, of Wheatfield, Indiana, on February 27, 2024, following an incident where a firearm was discharged inside a vehicle. The event leading to Figueroa’s arrest occurred on February 18, with authorities responding to a disturbance call nearly 4.5 miles northwest of Wheatfield.

According to officials, upon their arrival, Figueroa and two other individuals were found to be uncooperative. Investigation revealed that Figueroa, reportedly intoxicated at the time, had reportedly fired a gun inside his vehicle.

A spent shell casing was later, reportedly located within the vehicle, corroborating witness accounts of the incident. Law enforcement’s search, conducted with consent, resulted in the discovery of a Glock 19 Gen 9MM handgun loaded with hollow point rounds inside Figueroa’s residence. Additional evidence, including photographic proof of the gunshot inside the vehicle and a recovered bullet fragment, was obtained through a subsequent search warrant.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department reminds the public that an arrest and criminal charges are considered accusations. Individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
