EUREKA, Calif. — Wet weather is expected to return to Northern California this week, with several rounds of rain forecast through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Eureka.

Forecasters say rainfall will increase beginning Monday and continue through Sunday, raising the risk of urban and small-stream flooding, particularly in coastal and higher terrain areas.

Rainfall totals through the week are forecast to be highest along the North Coast and adjacent mountains. Some locations, including Gasquet, Crescent City and Klamath, could receive 8 to more than 12 inches of rain by Sunday.

Moderate rainfall is expected across Humboldt and Del Norte counties, including Eureka, McKinleyville and Fortuna, where totals generally range from 5 to 7 inches. Interior valleys and southern Mendocino County are expected to see lower totals, generally between 2 and 5 inches.

The weather service said rain will fall in multiple waves rather than one continuous event, which may limit widespread flooding but could still cause localized impacts, especially in areas with poor drainage.

Residents are advised to monitor forecasts and be prepared for slick roads, ponding of water and rising creeks as rainfall continues through the week.
