Jefferson, LA – Louisiana State Police arrested a Westwego woman for her alleged involvement in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Jefferson. Investigators identified Britney Holmes, 36, as the driver of a 2008 Nissan Sentra that struck 37-year-old Sue Ella Cechman on August 15.

Holmes allegedly hit Cechman as she crossed Jefferson Highway near Claiborne Court. Instead of stopping, Holmes fled the scene, leaving Cechman severely injured. Emergency services transported Cechman to a nearby hospital, but she later succumbed to her injuries.

On August 24, police arrested Holmes. Charges against her include manslaughter, obstruction of justice, and hit-and-run driving. Authorities believe Holmes attempted to conceal evidence after the crash. She is currently in custody at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.

The crash investigation remains active. State Police continue gathering information and urge anyone with details to come forward.

Troopers remind the public of the dangers of hit-and-run driving, which can result in fines up to $5,000 and up to 10 years in prison. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
