Riverton, WY – The National Weather Service Riverton has issued multiple Winter Weather Advisories for western Wyoming, warning of heavy snow, high winds, and hazardous mountain travel conditions through noon Monday.
The advisories go into effect at 11 PM Saturday night and cover the Wind River Mountains (East and West), the Salt River and Wyoming Ranges, and the Absaroka Mountains.
Forecasters expect 12–18 inches of snow above 10,000 feet in the Wind River Mountains, with 6–12 inches between 9,000 and 10,000 feet. The Salt River and Wyoming Ranges could see 6–14 inches above 8,000 feet, and the Absaroka Mountains are forecast to receive 6–12 inches above 9,000 feet.
Winds may gust up to 60 mph, especially along ridgelines and open passes, reducing visibility and creating blowing snow. Travel will be very difficult across mountain routes, including Union Pass, South Pass, and Salt River Pass, where 2–8 inches of snow is expected.
Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution. For road updates, visit wyoroad.info, and for snow forecast maps, visit weather.gov/riw/winter.
