LA CROSSE, Wis. – A quiet but changing fall pattern sets up across western Wisconsin as mild Columbus Day warmth gives way to a midweek cool snap and the season’s first hints of frost risk by Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, patchy light showers will taper early Monday evening, leaving partly sunny skies Tuesday with highs near 61°F. Winds shift north by late Tuesday, ushering in cooler, drier air through midweek. Travelers along I-90 and local commuters should expect cooler mornings for school drop-offs and early work commutes beginning Wednesday.

Temperatures will drop into the mid-40s each night, with some low-lying rural valleys possibly dipping near the upper 30s by Thursday morning. While no formal frost advisories are posted yet, residents are urged to protect late-season plants and outdoor decorations as the first fall chill settles in.

Forecasters say this mild-to-cool transition follows a warm, breezy Columbus Day that saw highs pushing near 68°F under clearing skies. Sunshine will dominate most of the upcoming week, providing good opportunities for outdoor cleanups, pumpkin patch trips, and leaf-peeping ahead of Halloween season.

By late week, high pressure keeps skies bright and conditions comfortable, with daytime highs returning to the mid-60s. Winds remain light, and no major rain systems are expected through the weekend.
