LA CROSSE, Wisconsin – A wintry mix of rain and snow will move into western Wisconsin Saturday morning, bringing the first measurable snow chances of the season and a risk for icy travel by nightfall.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, precipitation will begin as a rain-snow mix early Saturday, becoming steadier through the afternoon. Areas near and south of Interstate 90 have a 20–30% chance of seeing one inch or more of accumulation, particularly on cold and grassy surfaces. While most roads will remain just wet, untreated bridges and overpasses could turn icy as temperatures dip Saturday evening.

Forecasters caution that the storm’s exact track is still uncertain. “Even a small shift south could increase snowfall totals across portions of southwest Wisconsin,” meteorologists said. Drivers are urged to slow down, maintain safe following distances, and keep emergency kits and blankets in vehicles as early winter weather settles in.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reminds travelers to check road conditions before heading out and to allow extra time on I-90, Highway 14, and other regional routes. Any lingering precipitation should taper off late Saturday night as colder, drier air moves in.
