St. Paul, Minn. – Strong thunderstorms may sweep across Minnesota on Tuesday, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and the potential for damaging conditions before a cooler air mass settles in midweek.
According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, a cold front moving into the region will trigger widespread showers and storms throughout the day Tuesday. The greatest risk for severe weather, including damaging winds, will be during the afternoon and evening hours, especially in the Twin Cities, Mankato, St. Cloud, and surrounding communities.
Rain chances climb above 80% for much of southern and central Minnesota by late Tuesday, with storms tapering off into early Wednesday. While isolated showers linger Wednesday morning, temperatures will fall into the 60s and low 70s by the afternoon, marking a sharp cooldown from the upper 70s and 80s earlier in the week.
Travelers should watch for water-covered roads during downpours and be prepared for strong wind gusts that could down trees or power lines. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and limit non-essential travel during peak storm hours.
Cooler and breezy conditions will dominate the rest of the week, with overnight lows dipping into the 50s. Additional advisories may be issued if storms intensify.
