LA CROSSE, Wis. – Western Wisconsin is waking up to dense morning fog this Saturday, with cooler, unsettled fall weather set to follow through early next week. The National Weather Service in La Crosse warns that reduced visibility could linger along I-90 and Highway 16 early today before clouds build and light rain develops by evening.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers will increase later today, producing light rainfall and breezy northwest winds. Motorists are urged to use low-beam headlights and maintain slower speeds until the fog clears midmorning. Late-day showers could make roads slick for travelers heading toward Onalaska, Sparta, and Winona.

Sunday brings a brighter picture with sunshine and highs in the upper 60s, followed by another chance of light rain Monday as cooler air filters in from the northwest. Temperatures will fall sharply by Tuesday, dropping into the low 50s with a notable frost potential Tuesday night—especially across low-lying areas and open farmland west of the Mississippi River.

According to forecasters, the middle of next week marks the region’s first strong hint of late-fall chill. Gardeners should prepare to cover sensitive plants, and early risers should expect icy windshields by midweek. By Wednesday, skies turn sunny again with crisp highs in the 50s, perfect for pumpkin patch visits or leaf-viewing drives through the Driftless hills.
