La Crosse, WI – Commuters across western and central Wisconsin into northeast Iowa may face hazardous travel conditions early Monday as dense fog blankets the region. In some areas, visibility has dropped below one-quarter of a mile, with localized pockets near zero through 8 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse and Quad Cities, the fog will expand in coverage through sunrise before lifting by mid-morning. Low-lying areas, including river valleys along the Mississippi and Cedar rivers, will be most affected. The cities of La Crosse, Decorah, Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, and Prairie du Chien are among those expected to see reduced visibility.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and avoid sudden maneuvers. Officials caution against turning around on highways when visibility is extremely low, as oncoming traffic will have little time to react.

By late morning, improving temperatures should help dissipate the fog, though motorists should remain alert for sudden shifts in visibility until conditions clear completely.
