SEATTLE, Wash. – The calm, foggy mornings cloaking Puget Sound are about to give way to a soaking end of the week. By Friday, a strong Pacific system will surge into western Washington, bringing heavy rain, breezy winds, and slick commutes from Seattle to Tacoma.
According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, scattered showers will build through Wednesday before a steady, widespread rain develops late Thursday night. The heaviest rain arrives Friday morning as a low-pressure front sweeps inland. Winds from the south will increase to 10–15 mph, with gusts topping 25 mph at times near Elliott Bay and along I-5.
Rainfall totals through Saturday could exceed one inch in the Seattle metro area and up to two inches across the Cascades’ western slopes. Periods of fog and low clouds will keep visibility poor during early commutes, especially along I-90 and SR 520. Friday and Saturday are shaping up as the wettest days of the week, with highs falling into the upper 50s — several degrees below normal for late October.
Residents should prepare for slower traffic, puddling on low-lying streets, and the possibility of brief power flickers in exposed neighborhoods. Outdoor Halloween displays or decorations should be secured before winds pick up Friday. To be fair, the storm isn’t extreme, but it’s the kind of steady, gray rain that marks the Northwest’s seasonal shift — a sure sign that fall is here for good.
Sunday looks slightly drier, though light showers are likely to linger into the evening, keeping the weekend damp and cool. Early next week, another system could follow close behind.
