Seattle, Washington – Drivers across southwest Washington and the Olympic Peninsula could face sudden slick spots before sunrise Tuesday as snow showers redevelop and temperatures hover in the low to mid-30s.

According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon Tuesday for the Willapa and Black Hills, Southern Hood Canal, Lake Crescent area including U.S. 101, the Foothills of the Western and Southern Olympic Peninsula, and the Lower Chehalis River Valley. Additional snow accumulations up to 3 inches are possible in heavier showers.

Communities including Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Montesano, Forks, Lake Quinault and Skokomish may see quick bursts of snow that rapidly coat roads, especially on bridges and overpasses. Because precipitation will fall in hit-and-miss showers, some areas could see little impact while others turn snow-covered within minutes.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and allow extra travel time for the Tuesday morning commute. Keep flashlights and charged devices ready in case isolated outages develop.

Conditions are expected to improve by midday Tuesday as showers taper, but slick spots may linger into the afternoon.
