Seattle, WA – Multiple Flood Warnings remain in effect across western Washington as heavy rain continues to push rivers over their banks, threatening homes, roads, and farmland from Lewis County to Skagit County, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.
Forecasters report that major flooding is expected along the Cowlitz River at Packwood and Randle, where crests could reach near-record levels through Thursday morning. The Cowlitz River is forecast to reach up to 13.7 feet near Packwood and 23.6 feet near Randle, flooding roads, farms, and residential areas along U.S. Highway 12.
Farther north, the Skagit River near Concrete is forecast to reach major flood stage early Tuesday, peaking around 33.7 feet and potentially rising again to near 37.6 feet early Thursday, flooding low-lying communities such as Hamilton, Cape Horn, and Sedro-Woolley.
Additional flooding is occurring along the Newaukum River near Chehalis and Chehalis River above Doty in Lewis County, with both rivers exceeding flood stage and causing inundation of nearby roads, including SR 508 and Jackson Highway.
Meanwhile, minor flooding is forecast along the Satsop River near Satsop in Grays Harbor County and along the Yakima River near Easton in Kittitas County due to several inches of rainfall over the past 72 hours.
Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to monitor alerts, avoid flooded roadways, and never drive through standing water. Updates are available at weather.gov/seattle and 511wa.gov for travel conditions.
