Bellingham, WA – The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Cascades of Whatcom and Skagit Counties, including the Mount Baker area, with several inches of snow expected overnight.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will begin around 8 p.m. Tuesday and continue through 11 a.m. Wednesday, bringing 6 to 8 inches of accumulation above 4,500 feet.
Snow levels are forecast to fall between 4,500 and 5,000 feet overnight, with the heaviest snow expected early Wednesday morning. The advisory covers mountain routes where slippery conditions may develop, creating difficult travel for commuters and recreationists.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution, especially near Mount Baker Highway (SR 542) and other high-elevation roads. Officials recommend checking updated road conditions before traveling through the Cascades.
