Blacksburg, VA – Strong winds are sweeping across western Virginia Tuesday as a cold front exits the region, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph in areas along and west of the Blue Ridge.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, west-northwest winds between 20 to 30 mph could intensify through the morning, especially across the southern Blue Ridge and into Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Morning showers are tapering off, but another round of precipitation may redevelop in higher elevations by tonight, potentially transitioning to light snow.

Temperatures Tuesday are expected to reach highs between 48 and 69 degrees, with noticeably cooler conditions returning after sunset. Overnight lows will dip into the 30s and low 40s. Breezy conditions will persist into the night, particularly across higher terrain in western mountains and southeast West Virginia.

Residents in elevated areas should prepare for slick travel conditions late tonight and into early Wednesday. Drivers are urged to monitor local weather alerts and plan accordingly if traveling through mountain passes.

By Wednesday, calmer and clearer skies are expected, with daytime highs in the mid-40s to upper 60s and overnight lows ranging from 31 to 38 degrees.
