Salt Lake City, UT – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Freeze Warning for the Western Uinta Basin, including Roosevelt and Duchesne, as overnight temperatures are expected to drop below freezing beginning just after midnight tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 15).
According to the alert, the Freeze Warning remains in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. MDT Thursday for areas above 5,800 feet, where lows could reach 29°F. A Freeze Watch is also in effect for late Thursday night through Friday morning, with temperatures possibly falling as low as 26°F.
Forecasters warn that frost and freezing conditions could kill sensitive vegetation and damage outdoor plumbing. Homeowners are advised to cover or bring in tender plants, drain sprinkler systems, and wrap exposed pipes to prevent damage.
The cold front marks one of the first widespread freezes of the season for eastern Utah, signaling an early start to colder fall conditions across the region.
