MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Sunshine dominates across the Mid-South now, but a storm system moving in from the west will break the calm by the weekend. After several unseasonably warm and dry fall days, the National Weather Service says thunderstorms could return to the Memphis metro area late Saturday, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and potential travel slowdowns.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, highs will reach the mid to upper 80s through Friday under mostly sunny skies. Light winds and dry air will make for perfect late-fall decorating or outdoor plans through the end of the workweek. By Saturday, however, a 50 to 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops, particularly along Interstate 40 and into Crittenden, Shelby, and DeSoto counties.

Rain could impact outdoor festivals, tailgates, and pumpkin patch events Saturday afternoon and night. Residents are urged to monitor weather alerts and secure outdoor decorations ahead of the system’s arrival. While severe storms are not guaranteed, strong gusts and lightning are likely in some areas.

Cooler, drier air will return Sunday, dropping highs into the low 70s. The pattern stabilizes early next week, giving the Mid-South a stretch of classic fall weather—ideal for Halloween prep, football, or a drive along the Great River Road to catch peak foliage.
