Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for portions of western Pennsylvania as accumulating snow is expected to create hazardous travel conditions through Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the advisory is valid from 10 a.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. EST Thursday, affecting parts of northwest and western Pennsylvania. Counties included are Mercer, Venango, Forest, Clarion, Jefferson, and Indiana, including higher elevations. Impacted communities include Grove City, Hermitage, Sharon, Franklin, Oil City, Clarion, Punxsutawney, Indiana, Brookville, and Tionesta.

Forecasters say snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected across the advisory area. Snowfall is likely to increase Wednesday afternoon and evening before tapering off overnight into early Thursday.

Road conditions are expected to become slippery, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. The National Weather Service warns that hazardous travel conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes, with slower travel times likely.

Drivers may encounter periods of reduced visibility during heavier snow showers, especially in higher elevations where accumulations could be slightly higher. Even after snowfall tapers, lingering slick spots may persist into Thursday morning.

Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling, allow extra time to reach destinations, and maintain safe following distances. Residents are encouraged to report snowfall or ice accumulations to the National Weather Service to assist with forecasting and impact assessments.

Snow and ice reports can be submitted by calling 412-262-1988, posting to the NWS Pittsburgh Facebook page, or on X @NWSPittsburgh.
