PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Western Pennsylvania will stay dry and seasonably warm through midweek, but rain is set to return by Wednesday evening as a cold front sweeps across the region. Highs Tuesday will again reach the upper 70s, keeping outdoor conditions favorable before the change arrives.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, showers will begin developing late Wednesday, with the heaviest activity expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The front may also trigger isolated thunderstorms, especially south of the city and along the I-70 corridor. Rainfall totals are expected to range from a quarter to half an inch, though locally higher amounts could fall in storm cells.

Communities from Wheeling to Du Bois will notice the first impacts by late Wednesday, with rain chances climbing above 60 percent overnight. Pittsburgh, Washington, and New Castle can expect wet morning commutes Thursday as cooler air pushes in behind the front.

Drivers should allow extra travel time on slick roads and keep devices charged in case of brief power interruptions. Conditions will dry out again by Thursday afternoon as the system exits east.

More rain chances are possible next weekend, but the midweek front remains the region’s primary focus.
