Pittsburgh, PA – A surge of warm air is bringing temperatures near 80°F across western Pennsylvania today, but residents from Butler to Pittsburgh should brace for a round of showers and thunderstorms moving in by this evening.
According to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh, most cities in the region—including Latrobe, Oil City, and Washington—will see afternoon highs between 80 and 83 degrees on Thursday before strong storms arrive overnight. These storms may bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and a sharp temperature drop into Friday.
By Saturday, highs will struggle to reach the low 60s, with morning lows dipping into the 40s from DuBois to New Castle. The weekend cool-down is expected to last through Monday, with Pittsburgh’s temperatures dropping to 41°F by Sunday morning. Motorists should watch for slick roads during downpours tonight and be alert for rapidly changing conditions Friday morning.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, avoid travel during severe weather, and keep devices charged in case of power outages. Cooler air will linger, so those with outdoor plans should dress in layers and monitor updates from local emergency management.
Additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen. The next update is expected early Friday as western Pennsylvania continues to track this spring storm system.
