Pittsburgh, PA – Damaging wind and scattered thunderstorms could sweep across western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio Tuesday afternoon as a weakening ridge over the region gives way to unstable conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the area under a Level 1 Marginal Risk for severe weather between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday, mainly north of I-70. Wind gusts are the primary threat, though isolated downpours and brief power outages are possible as storms develop.

Cities like Pittsburgh, Dubois, New Philadelphia, and Clarion have a 40–55% chance of thunder by late afternoon. Elevated thunderstorm probabilities will persist through Friday, peaking on Thursday and Saturday, with multiple waves of instability riding in as large-scale patterns shift over the Great Lakes and Ohio River Valley.

Drivers are urged to stay weather-aware during the evening commute. Secure loose outdoor items and make sure emergency alerts are enabled on phones. Power interruptions and fallen tree limbs may occur in stronger cells.

Storm chances will remain elevated into the weekend, with additional advisories possible depending on storm timing and strength.
