Pittsburgh, PA – Residents across western Pennsylvania are waking up to patchy valley fog this morning, but forecasters say the bigger story is the unseasonably warm weather expected throughout the day.
According to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh, fog will linger early before skies gradually fill with increasing clouds. Despite the cloud cover, afternoon highs are forecast to reach well above average for late September, with many areas climbing into the upper 80s and some spots hitting 90 degrees.
Communities such as Pittsburgh, Washington, and Greensburg are expected to top out around 88 to 90 degrees, while areas farther north like Franklin and Clarion will be slightly cooler, in the low to mid-80s. The map released by the weather service shows the warmest temperatures concentrated across southwestern Pennsylvania and into parts of northern West Virginia and eastern Ohio.
Drivers should use extra caution on the morning commute, as fog could reduce visibility in valleys and low-lying areas. The fog is expected to lift by mid-morning.
While today’s conditions will be mainly dry, the added humidity and lingering warmth may give way to unsettled weather later this week. Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as a seasonal shift toward cooler conditions is expected in early October.
