PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Unseasonably warm air continues to hold over western Pennsylvania today, with highs around 85°F under mostly sunny skies. Monday’s warmth feels more like July than early October, but changes are on the way as a strong cold front approaches from the west.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop late Tuesday morning, continuing into Tuesday night. Some storms may bring heavy rain and gusty winds as temperatures drop sharply into the 50s overnight. The front will usher in much cooler air by Wednesday, with daytime highs struggling to reach the mid-60s and nighttime lows plunging into the 30s.

Residents in Allegheny, Washington, and Beaver counties should prepare for a quick shift from summer-like conditions to true autumn chill by midweek. Commuters may face slick roads Tuesday night, especially during heavier downpours.

By Thursday, high pressure will return, bringing clear skies and sunshine but cooler air through the end of the week.
