Indiana, PA – Snow will begin piling up after 9 p.m. Tuesday across western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia, creating slick, wind-swept roads before daybreak Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 9 p.m. this evening until 1 p.m. Wednesday for Venango, Forest, Clarion, Jefferson and Indiana counties, along with the higher elevations of Westmoreland and Fayette counties in Pennsylvania, and eastern Preston and eastern Tucker counties in West Virginia. Snow totals between 3 and 7 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching 45 mph.

Communities including Oil City, Franklin, Clarion, Brookville, Punxsutawney, Indiana, Ligonier, Ohiopyle, Terra Alta and Canaan Valley will see accumulating snow overnight. The higher elevations of the Laurel Highlands face the greatest impact, where gusty winds may cause blowing snow and reduced visibility along U.S. 219 and PA-711.

Drivers should allow extra travel time for the Wednesday morning commute, reduce speed and check conditions at 511pa.com or through West Virginia’s 511 system before traveling. Blowing snow may create sudden whiteouts on exposed ridges.

Snow will taper late Wednesday morning, but slick conditions could persist into early afternoon as winds remain gusty.
