PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Summer-like heat will linger across western Pennsylvania as above-average temperatures lock in through next week, with highs topping 80 degrees almost daily. The National Weather Service says Pittsburgh faces a 100% chance of surpassing 80°F this weekend, with the hottest stretch expected Monday and Tuesday when highs could push toward the upper 80s.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a strong ridge of high pressure will dominate the region, bringing dry skies and sustained warmth. Cities including Morgantown, Wheeling, and Zanesville also carry near-certainty of hitting 80°F or higher through midweek. Latrobe and DuBois could see slightly lower odds later in the week, but still face extended heat well above seasonal averages.
The hot, dry pattern raises concerns for air quality and outdoor activities. Health officials advise limiting strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours and staying hydrated. With lawns, gardens, and farmland drying out, residents should also be mindful of brush fire risks.
This stretch of warmth is expected to ease slightly by next weekend, but forecasters warn temperatures will stay elevated compared to normal September readings. Additional advisories may be issued if heat persists longer than expected.
