Pittsburgh, Pa. – Drivers along the I-80 corridor in central Pennsylvania should brace for flash flooding through 4 p.m. Friday as slow-moving thunderstorms dump heavy rain over already saturated ground.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Flood Watch remains in effect from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. for areas including Clarion, DuBois, and State College. The region is experiencing a heightened risk of flash flooding and sudden river rises due to persistent showers and thunderstorms.

The advisory comes as a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall continues across most of the state, meaning isolated flash flooding is still possible outside the main watch area. Localized downpours could overwhelm storm drains, especially in low-lying and urban areas.

Travelers along I-80 should expect ponding water, reduced visibility, and the potential for sudden road closures. Emergency managers urge residents to avoid flooded roads, keep mobile devices charged, and monitor alerts throughout the day.

The risk will taper off later today, but more thunderstorms are possible into the weekend. Another advisory could be issued if storms redevelop tonight.
