Pittsburgh, PA – Western Pennsylvania residents should prepare for an active start to the first full week of fall. Thunderstorms are forecast to hit Tuesday, Sept. 23, with the potential for damaging winds and heavy rainfall. The National Weather Service warns conditions could lead to localized flooding and hazardous travel.

According to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh office, storms are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon and continue into the evening. A marginal risk (Level 1 out of 5) for severe weather is in place, meaning isolated strong storms are possible. Motorists should plan for slower travel on major routes, including I-79, I-376, and I-70, where visibility and ponding on roads may create delays.

Showers and thunderstorms return again Thursday, Sept. 25. Some storms may bring heavy downpours that could cause flash flooding in low-lying areas. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor forecasts, and avoid driving through flooded roads.

Looking ahead, Wednesday brings a brief break with scattered showers before Thursday’s stronger system moves in. By Friday and Saturday, conditions ease with partly sunny skies and cooler fall air. Highs this week will stay in the mid-70s before dipping toward the upper 60s this weekend.
