PENNSYLVANIA – Roads across western Pennsylvania could see dangerous travel Thursday as a strong line of thunderstorms brings flash flood potential. Drivers in Pittsburgh and along I-376 should expect delays as heavy downpours reduce visibility and flood-prone intersections collect water.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms will build through Thursday afternoon and evening, dropping significant rainfall across Allegheny, Beaver, and Washington counties. Storms could repeatedly track over the same areas, raising the risk of flash flooding in low-lying neighborhoods and along smaller streams.

Commuters heading toward downtown Pittsburgh or using the Pennsylvania Turnpike may face ponding on highways. Officials urge drivers to slow down, keep headlights on, and avoid flooded roadways. Even a few inches of moving water can disable a car or sweep it off the road.

While rain dominates Thursday, patchy dense fog Tuesday night and early Wednesday will also create hazards for morning drivers, particularly along the Mon Valley and higher elevations east of the city. Thursday night brings the highest storm coverage, with conditions improving into Friday.

This first week of fall will stay unsettled through the weekend, but drier air arrives early next week. Sunshine and cooler nights will signal the season’s change, though temperatures remain mild with highs in the upper 70s through Monday.

Warnings may be issued if storms intensify Thursday. Residents should monitor alerts and prepare for possible high water, especially in flood-prone communities.
