Pittsburgh, PA – Western Pennsylvania is experiencing a heatwave, with temperatures soaring to a high of 93 degrees today. The National Weather Service has reported that this July ranks as one of the warmest on record for the Pittsburgh area, with average high temperatures significantly above normal.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service Pittsburgh, temperatures this month have consistently exceeded historical averages, with an average high of 86.9°F and a mean temperature of 76.4°F. This has placed July 2024 as the 17th warmest on record since 1871. Additionally, total precipitation for the month has been relatively low at 1.86 inches, ranking it the 29th driest July in history.

Looking ahead, residents can expect some relief from the heat. Monday’s forecast predicts a high of 86 degrees with a 40% chance of showers, potentially cooling things down slightly. Tuesday continues the trend with a high of 85 degrees and a 50% chance of rain. Temperatures will remain warm but slightly lower, ranging from the mid-80s to high-80s through the week.

The heatwave will persist, however, with temperatures peaking again on Wednesday at 89 degrees. Thunderstorms are likely to move through the area later in the week, particularly on Thursday with a high of 87 degrees and a 40% chance of rain. Friday is expected to be partly sunny with a high of 88 degrees, followed by slightly cooler temperatures over the weekend.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and stay informed on any weather updates from local authorities. The air quality index currently stands at 57, considered moderate, so those with respiratory issues should take precautions.
