Pittsburgh, PA – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect Sunday for western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, and parts of eastern Ohio, with freezing rain likely to create hazardous travel conditions. The advisory will be active from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., though icy roads and slippery surfaces could persist into Monday morning in higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Pittsburgh, light freezing rain is expected Sunday morning, transitioning to rain later in the day as temperatures rise. However, untreated roads, bridges, and sidewalks may remain icy during the freezing period. Areas near Pittsburgh and across the ridges in Fayette and Westmoreland Counties could see ice accumulation ranging from a glaze to 0.1 inches.

The NWS also noted the highest ice accumulation risk exists in the ridges of northern West Virginia and the higher elevations of Tucker County, WV, where ice could exceed 0.25 inches. Gusts up to 25 mph may worsen conditions in these areas.

Travelers are urged to exercise caution, particularly during the morning hours. Those heading out should monitor local forecasts and prepare for potential delays. For updates, visit weather.gov.
