Pittsburgh, PA – An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect for higher elevations of Pennsylvania and West Virginia, with wind chills as low as -30°F expected until 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service warns that areas such as Fayette, Westmoreland, and Indiana counties in Pennsylvania, as well as Preston and Tucker counties in West Virginia, will experience life-threatening cold. Exposed skin can develop frostbite in as little as 30 minutes under these conditions.

Residents are advised to stay indoors when possible. If outdoor activities are unavoidable, dress in layers and cover all exposed skin, including wearing a hat, face mask, and gloves. Water pipes are at risk of freezing and should be wrapped or allowed to drip to prevent ruptures.

Temperatures are expected to gradually rise by Wednesday afternoon, offering relief from the severe conditions. Updates on weather and safety recommendations are available through the National Weather Service website and local emergency channels.
