BUFFALO, N.Y. – Another round of fall frost and freeze alerts stretches across western and central New York into northwest Pennsylvania, where temperatures are expected to drop into the mid-20s to low 30s from 11PM to 9AM EDT Friday. The National Weather Service said this widespread chill will bring the coldest air of the season so far, with growing season-ending freezes likely for some interior counties.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Buffalo, Binghamton, and Cleveland, a Freeze Warning covers Oswego, Cattaraugus, and Allegany Counties, while Frost Advisories are in effect for areas including Niagara, Erie, Genesee, Monroe, Ontario, and Chautauqua Counties. Temperatures will dip into the upper 20s inland and low 30s closer to Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
Residents are urged to protect outdoor plants and plumbing before temperatures plummet. Gardeners should move or cover tender plants, and homeowners should disconnect hoses and insulate exposed pipes. Agricultural officials warn that any remaining crops left uncovered may be killed by the freeze, especially across higher elevations in western New York and the Finger Lakes.
Drivers can expect frosted windshields and icy bridge surfaces Friday morning, with sunshine and light winds helping temperatures rebound into the upper 40s to near 50°F by afternoon. After another chilly night Friday, a gradual weekend warm-up is forecast across the region.
