BUFFALO, N.Y. – Another Freeze Warning goes into effect late Thursday night for much of western and north-central New York, where temperatures are expected to dip into the mid-20s to low 30s from 11PM to 9AM EDT Friday. The National Weather Service in Buffalo said this second freeze event in 24 hours will bring an end to the growing season for most inland areas.
According to the National Weather Service, the warning includes Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, Cattaraugus, and Allegany Counties, where widespread frost and subfreezing conditions are expected to form after midnight. Frost Advisories remain in effect through Thursday morning before the colder air mass deepens overnight into Friday.
Residents are urged to protect sensitive vegetation and plumbing. Gardeners should cover or bring in plants, and homeowners should disconnect hoses, drain sprinkler systems, and wrap exposed pipes. Agricultural officials said frost and freeze conditions could damage late-season crops, especially in low-lying rural areas from Watertown to Wellsville.
Drivers should be prepared for frosted windshields and icy bridge decks during early commutes. Sunshine will return Friday, helping temperatures recover into the upper 40s and low 50s by afternoon. Another cold but dry night is expected before a modest weekend warm-up.
