Burnsville, NC – The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has continued a Wind Advisory until 8 a.m. EDT Friday for parts of the North Carolina High Country, where northwest winds of 15–25 mph and gusts up to 45 mph are expected through early morning.
According to the NWS, the advisory includes Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey counties, covering mountain communities such as Newland, Burnsville, and Spruce Pine. The strongest gusts are occurring along ridges and open areas before winds gradually subside after sunrise.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects and use caution when driving, especially in high-profile vehicles or on exposed mountain roads. The gusty conditions may bring down small tree limbs and cause isolated power outages across the region.
Forecasters say winds will weaken later this morning as colder, drier air settles into the North Carolina mountains, bringing clearer but brisk conditions heading into Friday.
