Asheville, NC – A Freeze Warning is in effect overnight for several Western North Carolina counties and Rabun County, Georgia, as temperatures are expected to drop well below freezing early Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, the warning remains active from 2 AM to 9 AM EDT Saturday, November 1, with low temperatures near 28 degrees expected across the region. Impacted areas include Buncombe, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Transylvania, Burke Mountains, and McDowell Counties, along with Rabun County, Georgia.
The weather agency warns that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and sensitive vegetation and damage unprotected plumbing. Homeowners are advised to cover outdoor plants, disconnect hoses, and drain sprinkler systems ahead of the cold snap.
Meteorologists say this will likely be the coldest air of the season so far, signaling a shift toward more persistent late-fall temperatures. Residents in Asheville, Franklin, Brevard, and surrounding mountain communities should prepare now for the freeze window between 2 and 9 AM Saturday.
Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly by late morning, but another round of cold weather may follow early next week if clear skies persist.
