JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – The snow machine over Lake Erie will ramp up again tonight, blanketing Chautauqua County with a fresh round of heavy, wind-driven snow that will continue into Monday afternoon. The early-week storm will bring slick roads, limited visibility, and tough travel conditions across the higher terrain.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Sunday until 1 p.m. Monday for Chautauqua County, including the city of Jamestown. Forecasters expect 3 to 6 inches of accumulation, with the highest totals along the Chautauqua Ridge, where lake-effect snow bands will persist longest.

Drivers on I-86, Route 60, and Route 394 should prepare for snow-covered roads and rapidly changing conditions, especially during the Monday morning commute. Short breaks in snowfall may be followed by new bursts of heavy snow, a pattern typical of early-season lake-effect events.

Residents are urged to slow down, use headlights, and allow extra travel time, as visibility could drop below a quarter mile in heavier bands. Plow crews will work steadily through Monday to clear major routes, but secondary roads may remain slick into the afternoon.

The snow will gradually diminish by late Monday as winds ease and drier air moves in. However, forecasters say another clipper system could arrive late in the week, signaling a colder, snowier mid-November trend for western New York.
