Albany, N.Y. – Cold air settled across much of upstate New York overnight, prompting frost advisories that remain in place through 8 a.m. Tuesday. Early morning lows in the low to mid-30s are cold enough to damage sensitive outdoor plants across multiple regions.

According to the National Weather Service, advisories cover a broad swath of the state, including Schoharie, Albany, Greene, Ulster, Hamilton, and Northern Herkimer counties in the Capital Region and Adirondacks. Similar alerts stretch west into Cattaraugus and Allegany counties near Olean and Wellsville, north into Lewis County around Lowville, and south across Chenango, Delaware, Oneida, and Otsego counties, including Norwich, Delhi, and Oneonta.

Residents are urged to cover or bring in tender vegetation before sunrise to prevent losses. Farmers and gardeners are especially vulnerable as frost may settle in valley locations and open fields.

Drivers could also see patchy frost on windshields during the morning commute, though road conditions are not expected to be impacted.

Frost advisories expire by 8 a.m. Tuesday as temperatures rise with daytime heating, but forecasters warn that another round of chilly nights could return later this week.
