Jamestown, NY – A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect for Chautauqua County through 1 p.m. Tuesday, as bands of heavy snow continue to develop off Lake Erie, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

Forecasters say an additional 8 to 11 inches of snow is possible across the Chautauqua Ridge, with 4 to 8 inches expected elsewhere in the county. The heaviest snow is expected late Monday night into early Tuesday morning, potentially creating dangerous driving conditions for both morning commutes.

The National Weather Service warns that lake effect snow can fall in narrow, intense bands, leading to rapidly changing road conditions and visibility over short distances. Travel across key routes—including Interstate 86 and U.S. 62—may become difficult or treacherous at times.

Motorists are urged to use caution, delay travel if possible, and be prepared for near-zero visibility in the heaviest snow bands. Residents should also keep emergency supplies—including food, water, and flashlights—in their vehicles.

Snowfall rates are expected to increase again Monday night, before gradually tapering off by Tuesday afternoon as winds shift and lake effect bands weaken.
