Buffalo, N.Y. – Western New Yorkers woke to a chilly start Thursday, with patchy frost forming in sheltered valleys across Erie and Genesee counties. Commuters driving early on I-90 and rural roadways may encounter slick patches, especially before mid-morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the frost threat will ease as skies clear, allowing temperatures to climb back into the 70s. Sunshine will dominate Friday and Saturday, with highs pushing near 78 degrees by Saturday afternoon. Sunday brings even warmer air, topping out around 81, offering one of the last true summer-like days before fall conditions settle back in.

The combination of cool mornings and warm afternoons will make this weekend prime for outdoor projects, fall festivals, and even Halloween decorating. Those with sensitive plants should cover them Thursday morning but can expect several frost-free nights after today.

Drivers planning trips across the New York State Thruway (I-90) will see ideal travel weather Friday through Sunday. Winds stay light and skies remain clear, keeping road conditions safe and visibility excellent.

The only rain chances arrive early next week, when showers may return by Tuesday and Wednesday. Until then, Western New York enjoys one of the most pleasant stretches of early October weather, ideal for leaf-peeping and seasonal activities.

More updates are expected from the National Weather Service if new advisories are needed.
