Buffalo, New York – A round of thunderstorms could roll into Buffalo Tuesday afternoon, July 29, bringing lightning, downpours, and slower traffic along I-190 just in time for the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service, isolated showers and thunderstorms may develop before 2 p.m., with a stronger chance of rain and thunder continuing through the late afternoon and early evening. While rain totals are expected to stay below a tenth of an inch, localized downpours may create slick roads and brief visibility issues during peak traffic hours.

Buffalo residents should monitor the radar and avoid non-essential travel if storms intensify. Winds from the southwest will pick up between 5 to 8 mph during the day, potentially adding to hazardous driving conditions on exposed roadways. Temperatures are expected to reach a humid 89°F, making it feel even warmer ahead of the storm system.

Tuesday’s thunderstorm threat will diminish by nightfall, with skies clearing into Wednesday morning. Still, another round of rain could return briefly Wednesday morning, especially before 8 a.m., before conditions dry out for the rest of the week.
