Canandaigua, New York – Drivers across western New York are facing hazardous travel conditions this morning as steady snow and gusty winds continue to impact the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier, creating slick roads and reduced visibility through early afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. Thursday for Livingston, Ontario, and Allegany counties. Additional snowfall of 1 to 4 inches is expected, with wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph. The combination of snow and wind is producing areas of blowing and drifting snow, especially on open roads.

The worst conditions are developing along major routes including Interstate 390, U.S. Route 20, Route 36, and Route 19, as well as secondary roads near Geneseo, Canandaigua, and Wellsville. Snow-covered pavement and drifting snow are making the Thursday morning commute slow and unpredictable, particularly in rural areas exposed to strong crosswinds.

Beyond road conditions, bitter cold is adding to the danger. Wind chills are expected to fall below zero today and remain dangerously low through Friday morning, increasing the risk of frostbite for anyone spending extended time outdoors.

Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Snow will gradually taper later this afternoon, but slick spots may linger into the evening. The advisory remains in effect through early afternoon, and additional winter weather alerts may follow as the cold air remains locked in place.
