Buffalo, NY – Western New York residents should brace for a wet and breezy evening, with rain moving west to east starting tonight and lingering through early Tuesday.
The National Weather Service reports rain will begin around 7 p.m. Monday and persist through early Tuesday morning, exiting the area by approximately 4 a.m. Rainfall totals are expected between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, with breezy conditions creating gusts as high as 40 mph overnight. Commuters and residents are advised to secure outdoor items and exercise caution while driving on rain-slicked roads, particularly along major routes like Interstate 90 and Route 33.
Looking ahead, a chance of additional rain and snow showers develops by Wednesday morning as colder air returns to the region. Highs on Tuesday will reach 43 degrees, though breezy conditions will make it feel cooler. By Wednesday, temperatures will hover near freezing, with rain transitioning to snow as the day progresses. New snow accumulation is expected to remain light, at less than a quarter inch.
Wednesday night into Thursday brings another chance of light snow showers, with lows dipping to 27 degrees. Residents should remain prepared for potentially slippery conditions, particularly in the morning hours.
By Friday, snow showers become more likely as temperatures remain below freezing, signaling the onset of a wintry pattern heading into the weekend.
